Neither Garrett Gomez nor Rodolfo Alvarado knew this would be their last recorded conversation.

In this final interview for their biography, Garrett sounds like a man very much in the middle of his life—rebuilding what addiction had damaged, helping a young jockey find treatment, thinking about his family and imagining what might come after racing. He had learned that recovery could not be done alone and that sometimes strength meant walking away. Then Alvarado asks whether Garrett still dreams of winning the Kentucky Derby. His answer is simple: “Yeah.” There is no farewell. Only Garrett, still believing there was something ahead.
